MY GRAND EXPERIENCE

A week after my Life in the Spirit Seminar twenty six years ago, during one of my prayer times, I felt God whisper in my heart, “Arun, I will bring you to Grand Canyon and there, I will tell you something important.” I held on to that revelation. I believed those words with all my heart.

As a teenager, I started filling my room with Grand Canyon pictures, posters and stickers. Beside my mirror was a small picture of the Grand Canyon. My school notebooks all had Grand Canyon covers. My computer was filled with pictures of this wonder of the world. I did all this not just to remind me of the promise made to me, but also to remind God about His promise. I think I overdid it, because somehow, even my face has a ‘Grand Canyon feature’ (for those who have seen me face to face, I think you will agree).

THE GREATEST GIFT

“…his name is Emmanuel, God with us.” – Matthew 1:23

I love this time of the year not just because I will receive gifts, but more so because I will be giving them. One of the greatest joys in life is giving. I know you agree. On the first Christmas day, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His Son, Jesus Christ.

One of the deepest theological questions I have heard is: “Would the Lord have come if we haven’t sinned?” What do you think? Would he? The answer to this query will blow your brains out. Yes, Jesus would still have chosen to come to us because that is His very nature—to give life. With or without our need for Him, He would freely offer Himself for us that we may have life to the full.

GOD LIKES SECRETS

God likes secrets. He kept a secret from Abraham, then gave him a son. He kept a secret from Jacob, then reconciled him to his son, Joseph. He kept a secret from Joseph, but eventually made him a governor of Egypt, enabling him to save his family from famine. He kept a secret from Moses, then ordered him to set his people free. He kept a secret from the Israelites, then saved them from slavery.  He kept a secret from David, then made him a king. He kept a secret from Daniel, then revealed to him the meaning of visions and dreams. He kept a secret from Peter, then made him a fisher of men. He kept a secret from Paul, and made him an apostle to the Gentiles.

BLUE GREEN

Lately, I have been giving talks and staging concerts in many countries in the world with a co-preacher and good friend of mine. Let’s just call him my “companion.”

From Canada and the United States, all the way down to Australia and New Zealand, my companion and I would tease each other about who was the “better man” between us. In the great amount of time we’ve spent together, we even managed to invent a crazy game. This game is our version of the age-old rivalry between two universities you surely know about. Some clues:   I would point out the GREEN grass to him, smiling naughtily as if to say, “Yeah, go green, green grass!” One point for me. He would in turn even the score by pointing to the BLUE sky, and sigh, with arms spread wide open, while shouting “Hallelujah!” Then we laugh in utter enjoyment. (Hope you’ll still believe in our preaching, by the way.)
