It never fails. Every time I go to a coffee shop to order a drink, I have to change my name. Why? Because the attendant always mistakes or mispronounces it. “Name sir?” she asks. “Arun,” I answer. “Harold?” she asks. “No. Arun.” “What sir?” She asks, squinting her eyes, closing in to hear better. “Arun. A-R-U-N” I spell out.
After this scenario has happened three hundred thirty times, I made a decision. I have to change my name.
So now, whenever I’m asked, I always answer – “Batista.”(Yes, “Batista” the professional wrestler who weighs 290 lbs. and is 6’6” tall… He also happens to be half-Filipino.) Every time I say that my name is “Batista,” the person on the other side of the bar takes a second look at me and smirks.
And the funniest thing about this is when she announces at the top of her voice, “One Mocha Latte for Batista!,” everyone in the coffee shop looks and sees just little ol’ me. People might mispronounce your name, but God always says your name with love. He said, “I have called you by name, you are mine.”(Isaiah 43:1) People could misspell your name, but God never will. He proclaims, “See, upon the palms of my hands I have written your name.” (Isaiah 49:16) People may even forget your name but God, never.
“Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15) God even knows how much hair you have, “Even all the hairs of your head are counted (Matthew 10:30).” This is how special and valued you are. The most famous, powerful, influential, wealthy, wise and loving being in the entire universe – God Himself – knows your name. Today, I encourage you to quiet your spirit and listen to Him call your most beautiful name.
He Knows My Name (by: Tommy Walker) I have a Maker He formed my heart Before even time began My life was in his hands
I have a Father He calls me His own He’ll never leave me No matter where I go
He knows my name He knows my every thought He sees each tear that falls And He hears me when I call
Your bro,
